King Kale

Kale has became the superfood of choice for many people. This dark green leafy vegetable is Packed full of nutrients and very versatile. Its so tasty and easy to cook, kale is one of those super healthy vegetables that people are sometimes unsure what to do with. Boil, steam, sauté to name a few, either way it’s beautiful and below are some ideas for you to try. 

How to prep Kale? 

Hold the base of the stalk, with the kale stems upside down, then using a sharp knife or with your fingers (by nipping tightly) follow the stalk down either side, to strip the leaves. Wash, to removed dirt or bugs. And store in a tub. Keep the woody stalks they are perfect for stocks and stews.

1- Keep it simple 👇

Use a splash of light olive oil, a clove of garlic, a few minutes in the pan and a squeeze of lemon juice at the end makes for a wonderful and fast side to any main dish. A splash of soy sauce can be added for more flavour. 

If you like your kale softer, add some water and cover the pan for few minutes before adding the lemon juice or soy sauce.

2- Use in soups 👇

Cut up your Kale (shred) and place in your soup. Even if the soup is from a tin. It adds great texture to soups and you will get all the health benefits this superfood gives. 

3- Smoothies 👇

Blitz into your favourite smoothie or try this recipe out.. 

2 handfuls Kale, 1/2 avocado, 1 lime (juice only) 1 small banana, 200ml pineapple juice. 

Blitz and serve 👍

4- Kale Pesto 👇

Replace the Basil in any pesto recipe with Kale. 

Top tip :- Make a big batch and freeze into ice cub trays. Every time you want some pesto just pop it out and defrost!! 

5- Kale Crisps 👇

Place on oven tray, drizzle with oil and season with salt. Place in oven until crispy. Remove and wait until cold. Delicious 😋 Kale Crisps 👆

7- Eat it Raw 👇

Run your knife through the kale and slice very thinly. The leaves can be slightly bitter when eaten raw but try adding lemon juice to it to balance the flavour. Adding salty cheese to raw kale works fantastic. It makes a great winter salad 👍Kale 👆

Kale fun facts:- 

• kale is in season all year round but it is best between September to late February 

• Kale is a member of the cabbage family 

• The leaves can be green or purple, and the edges can be smooth or curly 

• This now popular vegetable, but it has been around for more then 2,000 years 

• A small handful of kale contain more Vitamin C than in a whole orange 

• For the best flavour, kale must be harvested after the first frost. This ensures that some of the starches have turned into sugars.
